The Louisiana Chapter of RA was founded during Thomas Jefferson's presidency. The name refers to the Louisiana Purchase. The chapter's scope now includes all of North America and Central America. (RA tends to like older ideas that last.)
Jefferson and others embraced Egyptian symbolism (e.g., in the chapter's stationary). The chapter's logo is based on Ra-Horakhty: a classic Egyptian god with a sun disc above his falcon head, with circuitry embedded in the disc. The chapter's slogan often appears below the god: Quae est in locum suum (Latin for "Everything in its place").
