You can use wheels to work on a variety of projects during "downtime." We use Slippage to hand-wave when wheels happen.

2 Rolls per Session

You get two rolls each session in which you play. You can spend one or both on projects. You always get these rolls. You can bank them if you don't have a wheel in mind.

The team gets one additional roll each week. It can be used for any PC's wheel. If the team can't agree, they vote. This roll can't be banked.

One of the best reasons for completing a wheel is being able to say that you completed it. Depending on the nature of the wheel, you may be able to successfully assert to the GM that your PC deserves a particular story-related benefit, access to new contacts/locations/resources, or something similar.

Starting a Wheel

The best way to start a wheel is posting it in #cinero-requests-n-wheels in Black Pyramid. Please include the skill you think is most appropriate. You can also start a wheel during the launch sequence in most episodes.

The GM track progress on your projects using wheels, in the Player Spreadsheet. The GM sets the length of a wheel and you can see it.

Support is Doubled on Wheels

You can use one or both your rolls to support another PC's wheel(s). If so, the bonus is doubled. So if the result is:

  • 4-7 : +2
  • 8+ : +4

This rule is intended to promote collaboration, which almost always leads to a more interesting story.

Progress

Your progress depends on your roll:

  • Critical Failure: No progress
  • Failure: No progress, but +1 when you next roll on this wheel
  • Success: 1 tick
  • Raises: 1 additional tick per raise

After rolling, you can spend a Benny to reroll, as usual.

Possible Projects

Some possible projects include:

  • Contacts: Develop connections with beings and/or factions outside the team.
  • Crafting: Make stuff. The stuff can be mundane and/or magical. This project can include crafting a variation of a spell. Invention and prototyping may first require Research.
  • R&D (Research & Development): Learn more about something (e.g., person, place, object, phenomenon). This project may include scholarly research, lab work, and/or fieldwork.
  • Resources: Accumulate money, weapons, armor, gear, real estate, vehicles, etc.
  • Spiritual: Deepen your connection to the subtleties of the multiverse, based on your paradigm. This project may include participating in religious services, doing charity/volunteer work, prayer, meditation, etc.
  • Support: Help another PC with their project. Use the Support rule.
  • Synergy: Practice working together with at least one other being (PC or NPC). If that being is a PC, they must also spend a weekly die. Both dice are rolled and can add ticks.
  • Training: Maintain current abilities and/or develop new ones.

Standard Wheels

Some wheels are standard wheels. The default target is 4, as usual.
