Sixth Reset

The Sixth Reset was a year-long transformation of Sigil into Sigil Station. The Reset was partly complete on Jan 4, 2018. However, some cagers believe the transformation is incomplete. For example, the monorail tracks have no trains, yet.

The Sixth Reset may have been a response to the Pinch. It positioned Sigil to be accessible via the Maelstrom.

5/19/17	The Pinch begins	The spawn rate of portals abruptly declines and some permanent portals close
6/1/17	Sigil Station started	The Dabus begin construction of the monorail, ward seals, and Canopy generators
6/3/17	Tynkers recruited	Tynkers demonstrate that they can accurately predict some portal spawns and portal closures; the 15 Factions start aggressively recruiting tynkers to compete for knowledge and control of portals
7/1/17	DABOS terminals	The Dabus begin installing DABOS terminals throughout the city; most beings and factions pay little attention to them
7/5/17	Brainy bands invented	Tynkers start experimenting with DABOS terminals; some tynkers develop special headbands to mentally connect to terminals; these headbands come to be called "brainy bands"
8/1/17	DABOS drones	DABOS drones start appearing; the Dabus are rarely seen after this
8/1/17 - 10/1/17	The Pinch continues	The Pinch causes shortages, inflation, and civil unrest; tensions rise among the 15 Factions
9/1/17	Multistar complete	DABOS completes construction of the Multistar but doesn't activate it
9/7/17	DABOS BIOS hacked	Tynkers reverse engineer the DABOS BIOS; tynkers start hacking DABOS and DABOS drones
9/15/17 - 11/27/17	DABOS exploited	Many Factions and individuals routinely hack DABOS and DABOS drones for their own agendas; most tynkers use brainy bands to hack
9/23/17	Deep shafts located	Hacking DABOS starts to reveal "deep shafts;" these vertical tunnels connect from the city through the ring to the outer rim; at the time, this is more a curiosity than anything useful
10/1/17 - 12/6/17	The Pinch worsens	Civil unrest continues rising; internal and external trade declines; war among the 15 Factions seems likely
11/15/17	Preparations complete	DABOS completes construction of the monorail, ward seals, and Canopy generators, but doesn't activate any of them; the ward seals redefine the boundaries between some wards
11/27/17	The Lady's Firewall discovered	Tynkers in multiple factions find Lady of Pain (or LoPain) libs in DABOS and try using them; many tynkers are killed, disappear, or go mad; most tynkers stop deep hacks and stay near the surface of DABOS (e.g., locally hacking one drone for temporary use, locally skimming surveillance data)
12/7/17	Rise Day	DABOS activates the Canopy and ward seals; Sigil rises to surround the Multistar; DABOS activates the Multistar, creating a different day-night cycle for the city; DABOS finishes the monorail track but there are no trains
12/8/17	Maelstrom appears	A stormy, ever-changing cloud bank appears around Sigil; cagers name this the Maelstrom; it surrounds most of the ring, blotting out the sky, while leaving the Outlands below visible and possibly accessible
12/9/17 - 12/12/17	Probing the Canopy	Different beings and groups find ways to pass through the Canopy; however, while flying too near the Multistar, some beings and vessels are damaged or destroyed; travel above the Canopy quickly becomes uncommon
12/9/17 - 12/12/17	Probing the Maelstrom	Some factions use deep shafts to construct docks on the outer rim; tynkers and others build probes and ships, and they start studying and experimenting with the Maelstrom
12/13/17	The Maelstrom is astral foam	Several individuals and factions apparently discovered this around the same time
12/14/17 - 12/20/17	Spelljammers brought to Sigil	Spelljammer ships are disassembled elsewhere, transported through portals to Sigil, lowered through deep shafts, and reassembled on the outer rim; however, the ships that try to enter the Maelstrom are destroyed; attempts to fly down to the Outlands end in disaster, often fatally
12/21/17	Hornwood Equation published	Sarii Hornwood, a Free League tynker specializing in "transphysics," publishes an equation that predicts the dynamics of the Maelstrom; this becomes known as the Hornwood Equation
12/22/17 - 1/4/17	Searching for Hornwood Solutions	Tynkers use the Hornwood Equation to search for a Hornwood Solution, a transplanar vertex which they theorize can be used to travel through the Maelstrom to another point in the multiverse; early attempts to transit a vertex end in disaster, often fatally
1/5/18	Ms. Mona reaches Faerûn	The spelljammer ship Ms. Mona transits a vertex to Faerûn and back
1/5/18	The Sixth Reset	The Lady of Pain widely distributes a proclamation; the proclamation lays out new roles for the 15 Factions; each Faction will own and manage a "department" in "Sigil Station"
1/5/18 - Present	The Pinch ends	The 15 Factions rush to control deep shafts, build docks, build or import ships, find Hornwood Solutions, and compete in a new transplanar shipping boom
