Mission Report
Wed, Jan 24, 2018 ((May 3, 2020))
Party: Lyndi Fletcher (Aslene), Jane Irwin (Cael), Proud Flame (Aunne), Shiro (DragoN), Sylvi (Daewendriel), Kromrak (Sielic), Isabelica (Basil), , Farida (Kitsunewill)
The team makes final preparations for the Invictus op. Max introduces Lyndi to the idea of a ship's song, and a way to "listen" to it. The Tardigrade enters the crystal sphere of Daysahren, after clearing the quarantine perimeter. The Weave-space around the planet remains warped. The Invictus is still in orbit but getting closer to the planet. The team enters the derelict and moves through a security checkpoint. In main engineering, they discover elementals who attack them.
In Flight
- Bron and Kromrak play Edgewar
- When the League of the Rusted Crown captured the Glory of Kefnet, all the spellcasters were killed in the battle
- So while barge has a spelljammer helm, the refugees don't have anyone who can use it
- One of Talia's riders, Keri, is a cleric and can use the helm
- Rictus has spell slots so he can use the helm in a pinch
- Lyndi prefers Keri to step in first, if needed
- Max: while analyzing of the survey team's report on the Invictus, came across an interesting detail
- In the T'Aramont Navy, every living ship has a song
- The Tardigrade has a song
- In magitec terms, a ship's song is a mix of the sounds and other vibrations of its systems and subsystems, from the hum of the engines to the fluid flowing through its distribution manifolds
- I have the Invictus' song
- I think Lyndi can use her psychometry to tap into the song, if she wears an amplifier, a kind of magitec hearing aid
- Max gives Lyndi the prototype
- Lyndi tries it with the Tardigrade
- Talia sends Isalia to stay on Bron during the op
- Final gear check
- Suits with emergency jetpacks
- Standard kit
- Toolkits based on tactical roles
- Food & water: everyone has min 7 days, including Phobos
- Lyndi distributes Ghost Sight Ointment: everyone has
- Everyone has 2 healing potions, anti-venom kit, vial of holy water
- Gatriel is carrying 7 days of food and water
- Jane gives Gatriel a Dol'modeen pamphlet
Day'sahren
- Approaching the crystal sphere
- Quarantine spirits (gargantuan and unknowable; rumors are some are the souls of dead T'Aramont emperors, generals, and paladins), probes, and battle drones
- Weave-space around Day'sahren is warped
- Magic may behave unreliably
- Jane hears the ocean
- Invictus' orbit has decayed: it's passing from the thermosphere into the mesophere (Atmosphere Layers)
- Surrounded by clouds; that's odd
- Invictus in Mist
- Habitation rings are motionless
Into the Derelict
- Flight deck: mix of fighters and habitat modules
- Broken loader robots (?), actually exoskeletons, runes
- Sylvi and Kromrak recognize the runes as Undercommon
- Ghost Sight ointment applied
- When Proud steps onto the Invictus, his jacket glows with warmth
- The team enters throw a docking bay near main engineering
- Lyndi sends Bron back to examine an exoskeleton
- Lyndi uses her psychometry to listen for the ship's song
- The Invictus is incredibly huge, tired, seems to try to hide the Raptors from another's awareness
- The team moves down a corridor, finds the security checkpoint for main engineering
- Proud is checking for traps
- Sylvi easily bypasses the relatively-primitive security
- The team investigates the security checkpoint
- Belica and Shiro find binders with details on the construction of the main reactor and connected systems
- Team sends Phobos to deliver binders to Isalia on Bron
Main Engineering
- Main reactor is a tunable elemental vortex
- Subtle signs of damage melted by fire elementals
- Some atmosphere inside
- The Invictus uses a series of system nodes, with a network of spirit messengers between them.
- That network is mostly down, because the spirits have left.
- Sylvi is spotted by a blistercoil weird
- It and other elementals attack
