RB 4-2: The RA Building Hive

Mission Report


Friday, Jan 5, 2018 ((Sep 29, 2019))
Party: Lyndi Fletcher (Aslene), Jane Irwin (Cael), Cyrus Riggs (Sielic), Cadeos (DragoN), Haelra Vayn (Basil)
Absent: Proud Flame (Aunne) (on a separate mission for Nails)

The team began exploring the hive. A drone arrived carrying a human prisoner. The team rapidly killed the drone and healed the prisoner, who identified himself as Jerry Artino. The team accessed his memories of the Fall of Chicago. The team explored the ruined restaurant and lobby. The team started a rush on the kitchen/nursery.

A Drone and Its Prisoner

  • DM: > Cadeos is still under the exchange with Bahamut's angel, Emyla, and cannot receive healing
  • Draco: > Traveling with Haelra in machine spirit form
  • Draco: > Haelra has rogue assemblers on her, which Draco can use to create their combat form
  • DM: > Jane: "Raptor Blue: Extraordinary things are our normal bullshit."
  • DM: > Wasp-like drone enters, carrying a semi-conscious humanoid
  • Jane Irwin: Jane grips the staff, eyes narrowing.
  • Raptors fight the drone
  • DM: > Ryu suggests Draco try to reach themself in this time
  • DM: > Jane has noted that this alien biome is threaded with pheromones, suggesting that may be how the bugs communicate, in addition or instead of sound
  • DM: > Everything around you seems to alive and connected (except the victims, and even them a little...)
  • Dr. Tanesha Kennet and Ryu kill the drone
  • DM: > Dead bug crumples remarkably fast
  • DM: > Phobos offers to transport the unconscious teenager
  • Ryu: *I'll pass the extra insperation to jane*
  • DM: > Cyrus peers into the destroyed restaurant, with the winter storm blowing in

Horus Dining Room

  • Patio windows destroyed
  • Snow blowing in
  • DM: > Ractor wants to hunt something in the south end of the 5th floor, where the Raptors are
  • DM: > Raptors sense that human is Fighter type, L6-8
  • Draco: > tries to reach themself, reports that far fewer satellites are in orbit now
  • Draco: > I'm not finding any wireless networks or cell networks. It's... disorienting... to not feel the thick EM of our Chicago
  • Max: > Why are we here? I thought we ended the threat to True Order when we took down Mr. Smith. Motherf*cker.
  • Danana (Cadeos): *tries to read what symbol his class is*
  • DM: > The hive breaks down the pieces of the wasp monster
  • Horus Dining Room
    • DM: > The salad bar and buffet line have food debris that suggests that something happened here fast
    • DM: > Cy sees drones in the kitchen, which is hive-built, with suspended sacs, and two drones
  • DM: > H takes samples of the hive creep
  • DM: > Jane summons giant wasps to throw up a mimic of the pheromone calmness
  • Jane casts Lesser Restoration on the human, purging the drone's venom
  • DM: > Human identifies himself as Jerry Artino
  • Draco: > I think I put a cybernetic implant in his head
  • Jane Irwin: JAne, in the chain: Wait, holy shit, Draco can UNBIND peopl?
  • DM: > Jerry is wearing Vince's armor, which he took off a body
  • Draco links to Jerry's mind, taps into his memories of the Fall of Chicago: see Jerry Artino's Story
  • Phobos: As the memories start flooding - Lyndi instructs Lincoln and Hunter to keep watch for anything sneaking up - and instructs Max to try and connect to any security system that may still be intact in the room - since the lock reacted to Cyrus' PDA.
  • Jane Irwin: Jane's mouth is very, very, very grim. Someone sold out the city, taking all that stuff.
  • DM: > The sword Jerry looted the sword from Vince(?)'s body, and it slays chromatic dragons
  • Raptors discover that their P3s activate wireless security nodes
  • Max: > The general security network is down, because the power grid is down. The building does have substantial emergency power, but it's magitec, and I extrapolate that the, uh, bugs may have cannibalized it.
  • Max: > Local systems have backup power sources. Some of them are on trickle power, and if they're not damaged, they'll power up at a short-range ping from a P3 with the right signature code
  • Draco: > Gets some tutoring from Ryu, rethinks how to connect to the remnants of the Chicago network, to reach themself as Father D
  • DM: > Non-Cryos VIPs are looking cold
  • DM: > Jane and a wasp sneak through the conference room and lock the service door
  • DM: > the storm is worsening
  • DM: > Ryu gives warmth to the VIPs

The Collapsed Lobby

  • DM: > Lobby is a crypt of fallen troopers, killed by bugs. Then eggs, then baby bugs fed on the corpses. Sometime later, an explosion, bringing down parts of the ceiling
  • DM: > The doors are jammed in the blast-skewed frame
  • DM: > Cadeos casts Silence to cover Ryu's activities
  • DM: > Ryu and Phobos get the door far enough open
  • DM: > Ryu enters the lobby
  • DM: > Ryu goes to the roof, observes the perimeter (including on the water), the gun emplacements to the south
  • DM: > Some skyscrapers fallen, some still stand but with hive pods on them
  • DM: > Ryu returns, collects a PDA from a fallen trooper
  • DM: > Dr. Kennet looks much happier in a winter coat
  • Team forms up to rush the kitchen/nursery, rushes in
  • DM: > Lyndi, Jane, Ryu, and Cyrus are familiar with the aura of a reaver cloaker, and recognize multiple such auras as they enter the kitchen
