RB 4-11: The Cultists Left Behind

Mission Report


Fri, Jan 12, 2018 ((Dec 15, 2019))
Party: Jane Irwin (Cael), Cyrus Riggs (Sielic), Proud Flame (Aunne), Haelra Vayn (Basil)
Absent: Lyndi Fletcher (Aslene) & Cadeos (DragoN) (guarding Nails)

The team learns that Nails can now be healed. They learn that Phoebe Wyrick is dead, and that her actions helped Drusilla attack Nails. Furthermore, Phoebe had the Helm of Liquid Imagination and now the Adintech Conspiracy probably has it. Blake may contact the team for help in the future, and explains that mind attacks like Drusilla's seem to be growing more common. Most of the team returns to the Fort. In the morning, Draco explains a lead they've found on the Brotherhood of the Shroud. The team and Bron jump to Romania. They stealth into the cult hideout, then battle demons and cultists. They find a handful of cultists left behind, their minds broken. They also find Gatriel, a fallen angel of Tempus.

Aftermath

  • Draco rides with Haelra
  • Damage to the clinic room
  • Nails weak, grateful
  • Dr. Tanesha Kennet will treat Nails
  • DM: > Lyndi and Cadeos go with Nails to talk with him


  • Keestrix and Blake return
  • Captain Vi'essa Keestrix, wearing a leg brace and burn pads
  • Blake's armor shows signs of fire, too
  • Phoebe Wyrick found dead and mutilated in her room
  • She'd requested some dangerous texts from the archive, in search of treatment for Nails
  • She also pulled in a favor and requisitioned the Crown of Liquid Imagination from the Talarin Crystal Tower vault
  • One of the texts identified Drusilla as a member of the Coven of the Fear Weavers
  • When Phoebe used the Crown, she actually made herself vulnerable to Drusilla
  • Drusilla entered her quarters, killed Phoebe and took her face, then used her biometrics to let a hacker into Talarin's network
  • We're still discerning what the hacker accessed
  • Drusilla used the Crown to summon the living nightmares, then we're not sure what she did with it
  • Drusilla left a trap in Phoebe's quarters, which killed the squad of four guards that went in
  • They will not be raised
  • Their bodies will be returned to Tessera, per their wills
  • DM: > Jane gives Keestrix a Raptor Blue business card
  • Jane Irwin: Jane looks, for a moment, very very tired before she makes herself stand straighter again.


  • Blake: While you were helping your friend, I could study the ritual
  • Drusilla arrived on Earth via an astral conduit through a pocket dimension in the Astral Plane
  • Draco: the conduit was similar to the one routed through the undercity lab to create the mechadead hydra
  • Blake: she was stealing memories from Nails and sending them through the conduit to the pocket dimension
  • Draco: this appears to an application of Adintech and the technique of living archives
  • Jane Irwin: Stygi tilts his head at the orb, tail flicking.
  • DM: > Raptors return 3 green and 2 amber memories to Blake, to restore to Nails
  • Draco: > I will work with Max to update security protocols, given that Nails was mind robbed


  • Blake: You have an aptitude for this work; would you consider helping in the future, when similar cases arise?
  • Blake: > Blake explains that her order is seeing an increase of magical attacks on minds
  • Blake: > gives Jane a healing talisman


  • Proud encourages Jane to ask Blake out, then does it for her
  • DM: > Blake tells Proud that she's already partnered


  • DM: > Lyndi and Cadeos will help guard Nails
  • Jane is diplomatic about that
  • The rest of the team returns to the Fort
  • DM: > Joslin and Max looked worried when they meet the team on the roof

Draco's Lead

  • Working to combine predictive algorithms and data mining with my divination magic
  • Based on a variety of data sources, including those taken from Elysium in Winter and Caterina Berrett's labs, believe the Brotherhood of the Shroud hiding something on Earth
  • Found a lead on a site that they were keeping disconnected from most activities
  • Coast of Romania on the Black Sea
  • Minor cave system
  • Mining equipment was shipped in
  • Jane Irwin: Jane chugs her coffee and gets a second cup in a to-go cup. The Heart of the Depths is stark against her otherwise unremarkable red and green flannel shirt.
  • DM: > Proud dresses like a vampire, sort of

Scouting & Fighting

  • LRC markings on crates
  • Altar to the Parasite and the Devourer


  • The team captures the first guard
    • DM: > Guard was writing, Proud snuck up, threatened him, he dropped gun
    • DM: > Notebook: We must submit to dominate
    • Proud Flame gets /very/ angry. It simmers, right underneath the chain. There's sort of a righteous anger there.
  • DM: > Jane zipties guard
  • DM: > Jane casts Greater Restoration on the crazed guard
  • DM: > The guard's name is Emilian Matei. He was a low-level criminal in eastern Romania. Someone paid his boss to have him join the garrison here. Voices in the night drove him insane.
  • Team detects demons
  • DM: > Hezrou: resistant to cold, fire, lightning, nonmagical attacks
  • DM: > Immune to poison
  • Jane Irwin: JAne leaaves Stygi with the dumbass criminal guy too keep him from having a mental break, and moves toward where Proud is.
  • Jane Irwin: Jane looks back at the guard, hearing this, and says, "Also, you should like, be rethinking your life and your choices that kinda led to this point, you know? Just saying. Don't panic when you see the octopi."


  • Team fights two hezrou and two crazed cultists
  • The cultists appear to be casters but only attack with rifles
  • Cyrus fights as a giant ape
  • Jane summons giant octopi


  • Team triumphs and scouts the facility
  • There are signs that many more people lived and worked here
  • Team finds more crazed guards
  • Most of the guards have gone insane and scribble in books or carve on tables
    • We must submit to dominate
    • What was old is new again
    • From beneath we triumph
    • Tendrils and mandibles shall conquer scales and feathers


  • Team takes the four guards prisoner
  • Team meets Gatriel
  • "I am a fallen angel of Tempus. He trapped me here. These people excavated my prison, but then bound me in magical chains."
  • "I drove them mad."


  • DM: > Jane desecrates the altar to the Parasite and Devourer, and curses it with Dol'modeen's power
