Mission Report


Friday, November 3, 2017 ((May 20, 2018))
Team: Lyndi Fletcher (Aslene), Jane Irwin (Cael), Chuck Nielson (Ari), Edward Chase (Aunne), Joe Irwin (Zenru45), Ryu (ShadowRyuu)


Aslene: All right, I’m calling the play then. 1) Jane and Max work on the drug composition to see if any of its nonmagical ingredients can be traced. 2) Joe works on a tracer spell. If he can perfect it on the nonmagical wasteland, that still may lead us somewhere good or help us confirm something. 3). Ed and Chuck can work up a plan for stalking Tycen. An equipment list would be handy. 4). I will go to my PD orientation, and once I have a login I can look at the file for Tycen, or try and smooze my way into it. Information is power. Did I miss anything?
Aslene: I’ll task Ryu to do subtle research on the Yakuza. He speaks Japanese and may have contacts through his order that could help. It would be good to know more about the players on that part of the board.

  • Jane and Max
    • Try to trace Wasteland components
    • Dr. Kennet's team did full analysis of Wasteland Mk1 and Mk2
    • The opioid is an original synthetic so can't be backtraced
    • The hypnotic is a controlled substance, a benzodiazepine manufactured by South Bend Composites & Compounding, sold widely in the United States

    • Jane determines that the Wasteland is industrially manufactured (high quality and purity)
  • Joe
    • Works on a tracer spell
    • Quickly realize this is beyond current novice abilities (e.g., Locate Object is a Level 2 spell, and it only has a range of 1000 feet)
    • Calls on the White Council, they have divination magic keyed to Chicagoland
    • Spends some Portfolio Points
    • Will have a generic track object system by Friday morning (Crystal Table)
  • Lyndi
    • Nails arranges for a detective position in the Special Threats unit
      • Includes some full-time staff and some part-time staff (much like SWAT)
      • Liaises with the Department of Homeland Security, which means also liaises with Farwatch
      • Logan Pearson, Unbound Paladin, Lt of Special Threats, CPD
    • Gets Tycen's file
      • High school dropout
      • Known associate of the Black Mambas, suspected member
      • Arrested twice for possession with intent to distribute, 1st not guilty, 2nd probation
      • Known addresses include the drug house north of the Old Stockyards
      • Also: mother's house, grandmother's house, two Mambas members
      • Drives a Honda Civic
      • Max and Draco work on tracking the car
    • Searches on Dante Hyland
      • Finds him, no criminal record

Back to the Refinery

  • Tycen arrives to work his shift
  • Jim plants a tracker on Tycen's car
  • Stygi plants a tracker on the car, in the same wheel well
  • Dante arrives, enters the club
  • Stygi moves the tracker to Dante's car
  • Ryu enters club
    • Lets the yakuza know he's there
    • Orders drink
    • Observes Dante arguing with Tycen
    • Catches "Doctor Van--(something)"
  • Chuck recognizes name: Cole Vanlaere, NeoCyclic doctor who worked at Iowa facility
  • Chuck + Jane follow Dante
  • Follow on car: Ed + Joe

At the Motel

  • Dante driving Mini Cooper
  • Goes uptown
  • Visits a nice motel, room 7
  • Occupant answers, lets Dante in
  • Joe skulks to motel, uses Jim to enter utility room, hacks into phone system
  • Joe overhears argument between Dante and stranger, about money, about trusting Tycen, stranger's fear for his job
  • Draco IDs stranger's voiceprint as Cole Vanlaere
  • Dante pulls gun on Cole
  • Lyndi pickpockets Ecstasy from clubbers, then Wasteland
  • Tycen gets a text, bolts from the club
  • Dante spills information about Wasteland
    • As lab tech, arranged over-production and diversion of Wasteland, for Tycen to sell, knew composition had changed, "didn't know it would cause freaky shit"
    • "The doctor here is responsible for the ultimate recipe"
  • Cole angry
  • Dante doesn't know how to tie up doctor
  • Lyndi chasing Tycen, calls him in as a speeder, possibly armed
  • Ed, Chuck, and Jane approach motel room
  • Joe erases security camera footage
  • Ed and Chuck disarm Dante, handcuff Cole
  • Ed and Jane chase Dante off, Dante heads across parking lot (leaving his car)
  • Ed, Chuck, and Jane come out of the motel room, leading Cole in cuffs
  • Joe leaves utility room, rejoins Ed, Chuck, and Jane
  • Tycen racing north
  • CPD intercept car coming south with lights and siren
  • Lyndi, Ajami, Ryu are close behind in the van
  • Sniper hits Joe
