Conference with Max

  • Nails: drug analysis
    • Wasteland is a synthetic opiod; it can be delivered orally or intravenously; users describe a stronger rush by breaking open a capsule and smearing it on their gums (instead of ingested a capsule); it has an inhibitor ionic additive
• Lessons
  • Lockbox Doctrine (Idea): Many individuals and factions use magic. However, they usually act discreetly, both to hide their advantages and to avoid public confusion or panic (e.g., some fundamentalist religions would view most magic as evil). Many factions label their mutual agreement to keep magic a secret "the Lockbox Doctrine" (or simply "lockbox").
  • Threshold Alliance (Faction): a loosely-organized, decentralized league of nation-states, corporations, non-governmental organizations, and other groups. The Alliance is unified in one belief: the Lockbox Doctrine and maintaining the Breakwater are currently in the bests interests of humanity. The Alliance includes on agreements of mutual aid and the sharing of some intelligence and some research.
  • Marauder (Idea): A marauder is any being not from Earth. Technically, a mundane human from another world could be called a marauder, but the term is usually reserved for metahumans and other paranormal beings. It some contexts, "marauder" is a pejorative, implying that the being is trespassing and needs to be banished or destroyed.
• What Joe finds on the servers: Evidence of:
  • Drug dealing (mundane drugs, especially opium and heroin)
  • Online gambling: distributed cloud computing as a ritual to ???
  • Prostitution
  • Gun smuggling
• Max on motion sensors
  • Active: ultrasound: need absorbing or dispersing material
  • Active: laser: need absorbing or deflecting material
  • Passive: passive infrared: need to hide heat signature
  • Solution: inflatable polymorphic shield
  • Team orders some of the shields

A Taste of Bali

• Visiting A Taste of Bali
  • Nicer neighborhood, not expensive, safe

  • Team makes contact with Ajami
  • Ajami explains that she's a bounty hunter, tracking metabiotic crystals to Earth
  • Ajami came through a portal to Chicago, portal opens periodically
  • Ajami confirms that the Assemblers may have delivered metabiotic crystals to Lyndi, Jane, and Chuck
  • Yakuza contact: Joe: Via one cameras you set on the nightclub: Yakuza Server Guard 20 (who was burned and healed) holds up sign: "We've found your cameras. We want to talk. 312-232-8345" Then that camera and the rest are disabled.
  • Lyndi invites Ajami to travel with team; she agrees
• Message from Max: Tycen a known associate of the Black Mambas, Haitian gang in south Chicago, with some drug dealing
• Discussion in the car
• Call to Hank (Hatsu Anzai)

  • Impressed that team didn't kill yakuza guards, shows honor
  • Counter offer: work for us
  • Hank says have footage of 4 of the team: Jane wearing a mask so they couldn't ID, couldn't trace Ed (too paranoid), couldn't trace Joe (protected by white hat hackers), but they recognize Lyndi as former law enforcement from New England

Tracking Wild Dogs

• Team requests and Max sends files on Black Mambas
  • Two "wild dog" attacks
    • Sat night, large man/werewolf knocked man (Chet Koerner) down while jogging, "Watch it", growled at
    • Sun night, woman (Shemika Pitts), large man/werewolf, gas station parking lot, mugged her (took purse), left scratches on her arm
  • Both attacks are near Mambas drug house which is a known location of Tycen
• Team goes to investigate sidewalk where Chet was attacked
  • Feels presence of evil in nearby Mambas drug house
  • Sneaks up to and into house
  • Finds bestial humanoids (gnolls) terrifying, killing, and eating druggies
  • Battle commences
