Patience of Yesterday (ToA 3-9): "It is Sunday, March 19, 1995. This is the world of Amethyst." The beautiful, natural planet of Amethyst stands untouched in a sky of countless stars. From space, the patterns of clouds and waves are distinctive whorls, almost like a musical score. A rift opens in space: a violent tear of red and black magic. Three red dragons fly through, with riders in spacesuits. An armada of ships follows after, and spreads out in orbit. "The Adintec Conspiracy was led by the Devils of the Nine Hells, or at least they thought they were leading it. They bargained with the Githyanki open a portal to Amethyst for the League of the Rusted Crown. The League came to poison the oceans with dust, beginning the Shadow Curse." The ships begin a rapid bombardment of the planet. Dots of black appear in the ocean, then grow larger and spread. "Corrupting Amethyst weakened Dolmodeen. But she and her allies were not powerless." Something goes wrong aboard the ships. Their running lights flicker, their thrusters misfire, and they fall towards Amethyst. From the upper atmosphere, invisible entities fire back. Dozens of lasers hit their targets, tearing the ships apart. Higher in orbit, the dragonriders and their dragon wheel around, then dart back through the rift.
Aedin (ToA 3-16): When the League of the Rusted Crown came to bombard Amethyst and plant the Shadow Curse, none of their ships escaped. The Githyanki who opened the portals to Amethyst got away. But the Githyanki and their red dragons could not remember the location of Amethyst. The Githyanki could not remember even under torture and psychic surgery. Some of them died under extreme invasions of their minds, and still nothing was disclosed. Naturally, such methods were not tried on the dragons.
