An honor mark is a special tattoo, typically on the upper arm. It commemorates a great act of honor, such as selfless heroism in battle or fulfillment of the terms of an alliance. For example, Delanos Skyguard has an honor mark commemorating the delivery of twenty destroyers to House Ambercroft on the occasion of his niece's twenty-year wedding anniversary to Tylla Ambercroft.

According to tradition, an honor mark can only be offered, never chosen. The individual or group that wishes to honor the recipient formally compliments them and asks to bestow the mark. Typically the bestower provides the artist.

Some honor marks are said to carry powerful defensive magic, such as the ability to summon a spirit ally or cast a protective spell like Stoneskin.
