Maldrik Vire stands on the beach, his dress shoes sinking in the damp sand. He's wearing an immaculate blue suit. LRC troopers have him surrounded but they have lowered their guns. Vire is talking with smooth confidence to the LRC commander: a masc Human officer. The commander is backed up by a femme Elf combat mage.

Vire: Sergeant Thorne, your organization and my organization have a long history of cooperation. I want what you want: to get off this god-stained planet. I have met the agents of these gods and they are formidable. But they are burdened with their so-called ethics, and they are slow to see the bigger picture, even when they stumble over a plethora of clues.

Ricky Dean Thorne: We were promised an easy target: a soft colony ship. Instead we have faced undead, Planters, and motherfuckin' magical hurricanes. Plus there's this constant full-spectrum jamming. It's been a month and we're still barely scraping by. I got troops who are still not recovered from the crash and the swim. And now you want us to go back into the deep water? That's Her domain.

Vire: Sergeant, I feel your pain. Your intel on the Herald of a New Dawn was solid, but you made a mistake by disabling the computer's firewalls. As for the jamming, it's called the Wall, and it's not unique to this world. It's pervasive across this whole area of the multiverse. It has cut us both off from our allies. But there is a solution.

Hannah Solenne: You said your, uh, organization… laid down an enchantment, a curse. That's why there are undead down there.

Vire: Yes. The Shadow Curse is also why Dolmodeen's power can't stop us. Join your strength with mine, and we can use reach one of the nodes of the curse. With just a little added power, we can the node to punch through the Wall. We can let our organizations know how to find us and why they should. This world holds a far greater prize than just more slaves.
