The Vanguard of the Wyrm Princes are mortals who serve the Wyrm Princes of the Celestial Circle. The Vanguard goes ahead of the Wyrm Princes to find draconic cults and other evil activities of the chromatic dragons.

The most important member of the Vanguard is the Herald. When the Vanguard finds actual an chromatic dragon doing evil, the Herald becomes a living beacon to which the Wyrm Princes can travel.

Part of the Vanguard's mission is to try to isolate the battle and its side-effects in ways that shield the world, its innocent inhabitants, and its ecosystem from harm.
