The Tilt is a general measure of the team’s advantage over an adversary. It's measured on a scale with “ticks.”

Factors

The Tilt can include any of the following factors:

  • Advanced preparation
  • Intel
  • Surprise
  • Morale
  • Fear
  • Momentum (metaphorical)
  • Tactical factors (e.g., higher ground)
  • Strategic factors (e.g., chosen ground)
  • …and more

Initial Tilt

At the start of combat, each PC can try to shift the Tilt in the team’s favor. The GM may simply grant a tick or may require a roll. The GM may give a bonus to the roll (e.g., based on advanced preparation). Raises earn more ticks.

The GM also decides how the adversary tries to shift the Tilt and rolls as necessary.

Spending Tilt

Once the Tilt has shifted enough, one side can spend a tick for a bonus to a roll they are about to make. The Tilt immediately shifts one tick back towards neutral. The bonus can usually be applied to any roll, including an attack, damage, or soak.

Earning Tilt

During combat, as an action or part of an action, a PC can try to shift the Tilt.

Killing or disabling an opponent frequently shifts the Tilt.
