Letter Proposing the Rational Ascendancy

With the ratification of the Treaty of Paris, the attention of the Congress of the Confederation will now turn to establishing a constitution and securing its ratification among the colonies. However, I write to you on a matter of separate and equal importance. We must conceive and deploy another agreement, by which we secure this New World from the influences and terrors of the inhuman and otherworldly.

For too long, the great powers of Europe and their peoples have been entangled with and manipulated by the Fae, celestials, devils, demons, and the like. We see similar temptations and threats boil forth in the growing trade with the Orient, and also as side effects of traffic with the heathen darkness of the African Continent. This pollution must not infest the foundations of our new nation.

Our revolution was an exaltation of the self-determination of Man. Our new nation must be strategic in safeguarding that liberty.

Throughout the war we just fought and won, our brotherhood quietly excelled in using arcane knowing and power to strengthen our forces and weaken the adversary. We owe much of this success to the tutoring and camaraderie of our French allies. They have centuries of experience in discerning and countering the irrational and unseemly, through an organization sometimes called "Gardien Invisible." They stand ready to further aid us in opposing any and all who would corrupt our new polity and society at its inception.

Together with the undersigned, I propose the establishment of a new chapter of guardians here and now. Our public government shall forever oppose Tyranny, and our secret group shall forever oppose threats to Reason and human Purity. Let us call this new, armed vigilance the Rational Ascendancy.
