Elysium in Winter in a mansion in north Chicago. It was used by Mr. Smith as one of his bases on Earth.
The land is part of the grounds of Rosehill Cemetery. The building was originally planned as the White Elm College of Mortuary Science. It was granted a special permit by the city. However, key donors withdrew support and other funding dried up. It was bought by a private real estate management company, which converted the property into a mansion.
The mansion is a masterpiece of Modernist architecture. It has vast electronically-tinted windows, brushed aluminum accents, and a solid concrete superstructure.
