Most gods respect a covenant of a shared "book" in which the names of all their agents are listed. When a name is stricken from the book, that being is no longer protected by their patron or the covenant. This is what happened to Gatriel when she left Tempus' service. Had she not been claimed by Dolmodeen, she likely would have perished.
