Frayed are a type of spirit that draws its sustenance from Fraying the Weave.
Many beings and spells can reshape the Weave, allowing raw magic to flow around something. The strands of the Weave may be distorted, but ultimately undamaged. In contrast, a Frayed spirit rips the strands apart.
If the Fraying is limited and short-term, the Weave can eventually heal on its own. Repeatedly Fraying the same area can impede this process. Fraying the Weave is widely viewed as reckless and wasteful. Even among the most selfish and ruthless gods, devils, and demons (and their followers), Fraying is generally regarded as anathema.
