RB 5-11: Rendezvous with the Spyship
Mission Report
Sat, Jan 20, 2018 ((Apr 26, 2020))
Party: Lyndi Fletcher (Aslene), Jane Irwin (Cael), Proud Flame (Aunne), Shiro (DragoN), Sylvi (Daewendriel), Kromrak (Sielic), Isabelica (Basil)
Max and Lyndi introduce Res to the team. Life aboard the Tardigrade is crowded. Lyndi agrees to let the Amonkhetian refugees arm up. Kromrak meets Sujo and gives him a hug. Gatriel meets Sujo and considers wielding him. The Tardigrade rendezvouses with the Night's Embrace, a T'Aramont spyship. The team meets Commodore Meori Sunfist and Commander Tegan Castillon. Master Shipwright Delanos Skyguard is also onboard. Castillon brings the Aeorian absorbers aboard the Night's Embrace and talks about their care with Jane. The lazotep is also transferred to the elves. Braid joins the team. He's an android archaeologist who served in the original T'Aramont survey mission to UON-432. The team has a brief conversation with Nails and Brother Iron. The Tardigrade continues on course.
About Res
- OOC: Res never given much personality
- Res grew up in the city of Diyun and the surrounding province of Jeralta, in the Shangon Empire, on the world of Tessera
- Early in his adulthood, Res was a river smuggler
- He was recruited by the Diyun City Watch to join a unit called Special Cases, lead by Inspector Perfidy
- That unit evolved into a team of Unbound heroes called the Shadow Walkers
- Perfidy trusts Res deeply, so thus Lyndi does
- The Shadow Walkers stopped a rebellion in Diyun that was partly planned and supported by the League of the Rusted Crown
- Their investigation lead them to Sigil and an alliance with the Unbroken Tide
- They were the "monster slayers" squad during the attack on Ramshead, where they defeated Magara Thistledown
- Perfidy and Haelra left for Earth, to connect with allies against the League
- Danja stayed in Sigil to build her Collegium
- Res has been helping Danja and helping the Unbroken Tide
- He's an old school sword-and-board tank, including Protection and Sentinel

- Aeorian absorbers on the barge
In Flight
- Proud swaps stories with the refugees about life on Amonkhet just before and after Adinzar
- Sylvi tries to connect with Ajami Rao
- Who gave her personal objects and a Morse-code-storm mandala
- Sylvi gave her a screwdriver
- Jane continues learning about the absorbers
- Shiro gears up
- Belica continues studying Haelra's notes and discoveries
- Lyndi asks for artisan training from among the refugees
- Haroun asks Lyndi for a favor
- Refugees want to manufacture weapons and armor; Rictus can help
- Lyndi says yes, in exchange for a future favor, and they need to abide by Chuck's orders
- Lyndi works with Haroun on making holy water; the containers will be marked with Kefnet's blessing in chalk
- Lyndi directs Max to help the refugees record some of their rites in the VR suite; this happens
- Kromrak meets Sujo
- Kromrak hefts Sujo (n20)
- Sujo is forged out of hatred; Kromrak doesn't have hatred towards a god
- Kromrak gives Sujo a hug (!!!)
- Gatriel and Sujo
- Gatriel knows how to wield it, and wields it well
- It keens when swung, and distorts reality
- "This is a godly weapon. I cannot wield it unless I am serving a god."
- Proud tries to talk Gatriel into choosing a god and wield Sujo
- Gatriel will talk with Sujo
Rendezvous with Elves
- Asteroid belt
- Night's Embrace, Navy spyship, Dark Man-o-War
- Commodore Meori Sunfist (elf naval officer, she/her cis)
- Elves are in a hurry
- Delanos Skyguard shows up
- Delanos introduces...
- Commander Tegan Castillon (elf wizard/xenobiologist, she/her cis) will take the absorbers
- Delanos vouches for her
- Delanos says trust House Sunfist to rehabilitate and release the absorbers
- Transfer of the lazotep and the absorbers begun
- Delanos meets with Raptor Blue privately aboard Night's Embrace
- Gatriel carries Sujo on her back, wrapped in fabric
- Delanos introduces android archaeologist, Braid
- Braid knows Gatriel
- After UON-432, Braid became something of a specialist in studying battlefields; he crossed paths with Gatriel several times, while she was serving Tempus
- Delanos hastily "cuts to the chase"
- Why is the Empire offering a haunted system to alien refugees?
- The Wheel is turning, and we all have a part to play
- We all choose which Path we will follow
- My Path includes gifting you one of the best ships I've ever designed
- My Path also includes pulling strings so that the Amonkhetians receive a reclamation and homesteading charter
- Your Path can include uncovering the mysteries of two dead world, Amonkhet and UON-432, and perhaps saving some beings in the process
- The Shadows are always with us, always waiting to prey on our fears and insecurities, and to trade us power in exchange for just a little of our souls, bit by bit
- The T'Aramont Imperial Society of Sciences is ready to lift the quarantine, if you can provide a compelling report that the danger is resolved
- Delanos promises to do right by the Amonkhetians
- Braid: I've designed a replacement secondary generator
- Explains that the main power plant is an elemental nexus
- Generator is the size of a large house
- Braid recommends that the Tardigrade tow it
- Actually, Shiro can use the Bottle of Holding
- Secondary power will restore primary systems: Weapon, defenses, shields, life support, sensors, damage control; not transit spheres
- Braid explains the Cradle of Reason is kind of like an AI, "the kind that only a god can create"
- It's unclear which religious sect finalized the Crade: Ko'tah or Agon'tah
- The elf ship can create a realtime link with Talarin Crystal Tower for a short time
- Nails and Brother Iron appear
- Nails: this why R3M exists: to prevent a global calamity like UON-432.
- Brother Iron: this what devils do: play on the insecurities and fears of mortals, who bargain away their souls for deadly secrets. Practice compassion for all these dwarves. Their kind was traumatized over lifetimes by the illithids. Those aberrations warp everything they touch.
- Some discussion of how to treat with duergar, elementals, and undead
- Brother Iron believes most of the powerful elementals would have left, after their revenge on their slavemasters
- Nails: This is something of a new kind of op for your team. Colonel Bernard MacLachlan called it "living in the mud." You'll be in dangerous territory for an extended time. And it looks like you'll be doing it in something like a graveyard. Be prepared for the physical and psychological challenges.
- Delanos reports that Night's Embrace has topped off the Tadigrade 's metametal reserves
- Commodore Sunfist meets privately with Lyndi
- Compliment on the crates; Lyndi will put her engineers in touch with Sunfist's engineers
- Sunfist wishes to see UON-432 end well. It's currently a cautionary tale taught to flag officers, to instill a respect for the ship spirits and all similar relationships
- Braid has helped retrieve "super weapons" from battlefields, many of which went to House Skyguard
- Skyguard has only deployed the weapons that could be ethically used, and disappeared others
- Braid seems to be unaffected by the many awful things he's encountered, cataloguing battlefields. In his last psych evaluation, he passed, but there's private concern that the horrors will eventually catch up to him
