Overview
An interval is the downtime between seasons. It includes leveling up. It also includes a variety of possible activities for PCs to pursue individually, in pairs, in small groups, etc.
During an interval session, we may shift to Café Style play.
Resolving Interval Activities
We resolve interval activities in broad ways. For example, we don't break a week down into every day, nor break a day down into morning/afternoon/evening.
You can expect at least 11 weeks of interval. In the first 10 weeks, you're required to spend 5 days per week on leveling up. That leaves 2 days for wheels, for which you receive 2d20 each week. A wheel may involve a roll or you may just need to spend the d20. Sometimes the DC may be trivially low (e.g., 5), just to see if you roll a natural 1 or a natural 20. (It's fun to let the dice tell the story.)
We also take some inspiration from "Downtime Revisited" in Xanathar's (p. 123+), which includes Carousing, Buying or Crafting an Item (which involves spending Essence Points), Gambling, Pit Fighting, Relaxation, Religious Service, Research, Scribing a Spell Scroll. (Training is already available via Wheels.) We adapt Crime to be a Side Op. (As written, Crime is incompatible with being a R3M operative.) We sometimes use the complications tables.
Creativity is Encouraged
Wheels can be very ambitious, across a wide variety of professional and personal goals. For example, you could invent a new product, start a business to sell it, and build that into a corporation (or guild). As another example, you could fall in love, have children, and raise them. As another example, you could run for successive public offices, serving as a mayor, then senator, then governor, then president.
Xanathar's rules and tables are only a starting point. Creativity is more important than simulation (Rule of Cool). For example, R3M can fund all kinds of things, like startup funds for a business. R3M and its allies can open doors, like an internship in the US Senate.
Ending the Interval
After 10 weeks, the DM will roll 1d4 at the end of each week. The target is 1 and increases by 1 each week. If the roll is at or under the target, the downtime ends and the new season starts.
