This a further memory of the LRC aboard a fragment of Alpha Module, just after the crash. Captain Garrick Stonehammer lies motionless on the deck, a fresh bullet hole in his forehead. His eyes are open but sightless. The LRC commander who shot Garrick holsters his pistol. He checks on the LRC troopers as they buckle on armor.

Another trooper runs in to the conference room. "Sir! Buoyancy… the damage…" she pants. "We're taking on… water. We're sinking."

The commander grimaces and clenches his fists, then slams his fist against the table. "This job. This fuckin' job." He takes a breath. "Alright. Grab what you can. We're abandoning ship. Leave the prisoners."

Another trooper clears her throat. "Uh, sir. Some of the men can't swim."

The commander leads his forces from the room. "Then for their sake, I hope you were wrong about the distance to shore."

Meanwhile, in the foreground, something beneath Garrick's leather breastplate glows with a soft red-gold light. The fallen Dvar takes a shaky breath and his eyes refocus. He silently reaches under his armor and pulls forth a glowing medallion. He murmurs a prayer, then exhales a final time and lies still once more. Water seeps and gurgles into the room, rapidly rising. Alpha begins to sink.
