Metabiotic crystals are created from bloodstones. When injected, ingested, or otherwise taken in, a crystal can induce a Change in a mundane being. The Change can be deadly. NeoCyclic experimented with Wasteland laced with crystals to create a survivable Change.
Max: The acceleration of Tycen's Change seems to provide further evidence that a metabiotic-induced Change can be catalyzed by the presence and vulgar paranormal activities of Unbound. The NeoCyclic researchers were only able to contrive Changes into orcs, while some Mambas members and their customers were only Changed into gnolls. Tycen was Changing into an ogre: yet another low-intelligence, high-aggression type of non-Terran metahuman. Given that pattern, it's curious that Joslin Young's male son was Changing into a dragonborn. Myriad: The soul forge at Ramshead didn't reliably produce pure metabiotic crystals. Regardless of the host, the impure crystals turned subjects into beings with natures that slant towards chaotic evil: bugbears, derro, gnolls, orcs, troglodytes, xvart, and so on.
