You dream of a violent confrontation.

The confrontation is happening in the main conference room in Alpha Module. The time seems to be soon after the crash. Many bodies lie along the walls and in the shadows. Some appear to be victims of the crash itself, while others have been killed. Most of the victims were senior officers of the Herald of the New Dawn.

In the background, a few humanoids are stripping out of their crew jumpsuits. Next, they put on battle dress uniforms and armor. They also take up firearms and ammo. One of the men has a can of spray paint. He uses a stencil to spray a crown symbol on the others’ breastplates and pauldrons.

In the foreground, a Human trooper (he/him) interrogates Garrick Stonehammer. Garrick (he/him) is a Dvar master crafter and Section Chief of Beta Module. Garrick is on his knees. Someone has hit him in the face, perhaps with a gunstock.

The trooper’s tone is matter of fact: “We know that you launched a counter-hack and that it re-routed the ship. Just tell us where we are and what’s blocking our communications.”

Garrick sighs in weariness. “Thar was no counter-hack, yeh damn’d Rustie. When yeh disabled th’ firewall, yeh exposed the AIs to some kinda outside code. That’s what reconfigure’d our nav systems. The code was maybe Reaver, but I dinna get a good look.” Garrick grins through a split lip. “If it is Reavers, then yer truly fucked. Ah reckon that’s who fired on us during descent.” He chuckles, then coughs wetly. “Neither of us is gettin’ what we want.”

The trooper frowns. “You still might save some of your people. Help us. Give us your command codes.”

Garrick looks grimly at the bodies of his comrades. “The fact that yer askin’ means you ain’t got someone who can git ‘em from outta my head. So kiss mah hairy ass.” He spits blood on the trooper’s boots. “Justice will find you, Rustie. I die free.”

The trooper scowls, then calmly shoots Garrick in the head.
