The District of Columbia has three major city spirits: Sorrow, Anger, and Ambition. This fragmentation implies much about the discordant visions and aspirations of the peoples and factions here. DC has other powerful spirits as well, including Bob and Columbia.
Contents
Sorrow
Oma Janda is the Spirit of Sorrow. She is associated with poverty, hopelessness, addiction and other vices, and loss.
She appears as a giant turtle, walking a circle over a submerged version of DC. A vibrant forest grows on her shell. A belvedere (or gazebo) stands at the highest point. She can be reached via a portal in Turtle Park.
Oma Janda is a primal god. Some believe that she came to DC with African slaves. She has a reputation of protecting the descendants of such slaves.
Anger
Canto Fel is the Spirit of Anger. She is associated with law enforcement, protests, the military, and vengeance. This especially includes the military side of the military-industrial complex.
Canto Fel appears as a wary Indian FBI agent (she/her). She has long, dark hair and dusky skin. Her eyes smolder like sliding lava, turgid with inhuman thoughts and feelings. Canto is wearing an FBI ballcap and parka, over a black T-shirt. She has well-loved, dirty jeans and combat boots. She moves erratically, often flickering between two points without crossing the space between.
Canto Fel is served by city shadows: the restless souls of dead soldiers. She can also summon city gloom, a kind of dark, sticky fog that hides her activities from Sleepers and makes them forget.
Ambition
Bram Astris is the Spirit of Ambition. They are associated with politics, banking, empire building (including neo-colonialism), and entrepreneurship. This especially includes the federal government and the industrial side of the military-industrial complex.
Bob
Bob is another powerful spirit. Some experts see him as a fourth city spirit: Mania. Bob is associated with recklessness, indulgence, parties, and creativity.
He demonstrates a fascination with beings who cause disruption. His favors tends to be double-edged, with unexpected consequences.
Bob is also known as the Crazy Toymaker. He is kind to children.
Columbia
Columbia was a major spirit of the Americas throughout the 1600-1800's. She was slowly eclipsed in mortals' imagination and beliefs by Lady Liberty. The Louisiana Chapter of the Rational Ascendancy continues to revere Columbia.
