The Simic Combine is a source of great interest to the [[Rational Ascendancy]]. RA is troubled by the Combine's focus on sustaining natural ecosystems and championing biodiversity. On Earth, some RA factions fought a long, costly, secret war against the Order of [[One Terra]]. Those factions want to prevent any substantial relationship between One Terra and the Combine, much less an alliance.<br />

Furthermore, some RA factions have a strong interest in "super soldier" programs, including [[Farwatch]] and [[Primex]]. This drew their attention to the Combine's Guardian Project. Unbound are significantly more common on Earth than other worlds, but still rare. Furthermore, by their nature Unbound are often willful and independent. Some RA leaders are always eager to support new avenues of R&D into enhancing combatants.<br />

Hence, RA agents have studied the Combine carefully. However, apparently they've been unsuccessful in attempts to infiltrate the faction.<br />
<br />
The Combine is considered highly ethical, within their particular paradigm and mindset. They perform radical experiments on living beings only for the purposes of enhancing them and preparing them for Combine goals (as part of the "Upwelling" principle). The Guardian Project is intended to position the Combine to defend their goals and advance their agenda if the guilds of Ravnica descend into open war.<br />
