Jane, later, finds Aedin and hands him that ereader. The reader has quite a few books on it from the look of the home page.<br/><br/>“So,” she says, without much preamble, “I hope I’m not like, presuming, but I sorta think it’s a damn shame you haven’t had any good stories. Earth has some problems but we are hard wired to tell stories, so I got you a couple good scifi /fantasy series to sink your teeth into. Well. Not literally, cause thought projection or whatever, but still. There’s some classics and some more modern ones and some long series and some standalone. You don’t hAVE to read them, but I thought it might be fun for you.”<br/><br/>She shifts a bit, clears her throat, a little unsure. “...I, ah, also went ahead and got you some stuff that you mentioned you’d be interested in earlier. I marked most of them with a brief summary.”

In the e-reader are:

* Safehold series by David Weber (same dude who wrote HH, fucking fabulous shit. Duchairn may interest you. There’s some parallels between you and him.)
* Changeverse series by SM Stirling (a little dark in the first book, but so, so, so good. Magic and fantasy and hope and the best/worst of people, the consequences of the even the small choices we make in the scheme of things.)
* Sherlock Holmes novels (detective classic novel)
* Dracula (classic)
* White Fang (one of my two favorite classics)
* Robin Hood (classic)
* Three Musketeers (classic)
* John Muir: Wilderness essays (JM is an icon)
* Star Wars 1-6 (one of the greatest scifi series ever produced).
* Good omens by Neil Gaiman (NG is one of the best authors around.)
* 2000 leagues under the sea (classic)
* Black Beauty (my other favorite classic)
* The Deeds of Paksenarrion (Paladin high fantasy goodness)
* Entire collection of Discworld novels (Terry Prachet is… beyond belief. Tackles every subject you could think of, from slavery on upwards, in a high fantasy context with some of the best wordplay and writing our planet has ever had. The character growth of his protagonists, particularly Vimes and my boy Carrot, is delicious.)
* The Wind in the Willows (classic)
* Green Rider series by Kristen Britain (adventure high fantasy series)
* A Wrinkle in Time (classic)
* Redwall by Brian Jacques (a lower-key high fantasy series, starts with Redwall, good for relaxation and amazing descriptions of feasts)
* The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (must read for everyone, really)
* Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (this one is from Proud)

`And then, with a second note, another set of very different books: "I haven’t read all of these--we learn about the basics of them in school, but not enough and just the sanitized version which is boring and and not what I’m giving you--but I probably ought to, now that I think of it. Hope they’re what you were thinking of."

* Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northrop
* Slave Narratives of the Underground Railroad by Christine Rusidel
* Gateway to Freedom: The Hidden History of the Underground Railroad by Eric Foner (the Underground Railroad was sort of the American version of the Unbroken Tide, two hundred some years ago).
* Harriet Tubman: The Road to Freedom by Catherine Clinton (Harriet Tubman is a real life god damn hero. She organized resistance efforts to slavery and was known as “The General” of the Underground Railroad.)
* The Underground Railroad Records: Narrating the Hardships, Hairbreadth Escapes, and Death Struggles of Slaves in Their Efforts for Freedom by William Still
* Harriet Beecher Stowe: The Story of Her Life By Charles Edward Stowe and Lyman Beecher Stowe
* Harriet Beecher Stowe: the complete Novels by Harriet Beecher Stowe (includes: Uncle Tom’s Cabin
