Moment

Dr. Mara Ellings is a Human scientist (she/her). She takes a deep breath and tries to look composed, but the strain shows in her haggard eyes, splotchy skin, and frizzy hair. "Dr. Ellings, Principal Investigator. December 8th, 1998. Final log. The team has learned so much about necrotic energy and phenomena. This Shadow Curse can teach us so much. So, so much."

"It cost lives to defeat the node's guardian, but it was worth it. We have mapped rhythms and spikes, studied the spectral data… recorded its, its whispers, traced how the node anchors itself in the network, to this world..." She trails off in thought, then comes back herself.

"But despite every safeguard, the node… refuses… containment. Its influence has seeped into our facility, into our minds, slowly and relentlessly. It manifests as nightmares and intrusive thoughts. We're observing compulsive behaviors across all staff, none of whom can explain their impulses. Jeremy evidently took samples of lazotep from the lab and concealed them in his room, some time before he attacked Risa."

Another long pause. Then she takes a determined breath. "With Risa dead, I have assumed leadership. The risks are now undeniable. We are abandoning the site. We will seal the lab and release a defensive agent into all compartments. We will travel to 2." She takes a breath. "We need to leave before… before things…." (The video ends.)
